Cruises, Car Shows and Judging
The Holden Car Club of WA, above all else, aim to enjoy ourselves. A number of events are planned by the committee each year with this in mind. Weekend picnic cruises are the simplest organized by the club. At the opposite end of the scale, planning for GM Owners Day starts about 3 months prior. Some of the events the club organize and / or partake in are briefly described below.
The Annual Cruise
This event is scheduled for each year in late February to early March. This
cruise is the longest in duration. The club heads down south for the weekend with accommodation for members being
very well subsidized by the club, making this event an enjoyable and inexpensive
weekend away.
The Classic Car Show
This event is held at Whiteman Park each year and is organized by the Council of
Motoring Clubs. Our club is always in attendance along with many others. There
is a limited (but fair) amount of space allocated to each club and in previous
years we've been able to tackle this event with a small to medium sized arsenal of cars.
All Aussie Car Day -
Waroona
In 2004 the Club was involved in an event called "Classic Holdens in the
Loop" which took place in Yarloop which is just north of Bunbury. The Club
received an invite from the Yarloop progress committee to put on a display of
cars while the townspeople and local businesses put up stalls and displays,
creating a fair-like atmosphere. The response from our own club members was
overwhelming. Plus the support from other Holden owners did not go amiss.
Since then, All Aussie Car day has become very popular among motoring
enthusiasts and has moved to the (slightly) more accessible location of Waroona
GM Owners Day
This is the main event for for the club and it's members. Surpassing all
other events in significance and size, GM Owners Day is a bi-yearly event held
every two years at Bassendean Oval. The GM Owners Day Committee is made up of
The Holden Car Club of WA committee and the Chevrolet Car Club committee,
together the two clubs host the event which lasts for a day. Other clubs which
attend on the day are,
- The Combined Torana Club
- The Monaro club of WA
- The EH Holden Club of WA
- Plus many more
This event is not for the clubs benefit however, as all the proceeds are given
to AABIC. The Association for the Advancement of Brain Injured Children. Over
$100,000 has been raised for AABIC since the event began in the mid 1980's.
Annual Show and Shine
At this event we have a “Peoples Choice” award and nominations for the
Dennis Klarich award for Best Clubman.
There is always a significant
amount of business to be conducted while running any club, and ours is no
exception. Meetings are held on the second
Saturday of January, March, May, July, September and November at the East
Victoria Park RSL Clubrooms 1 Fred Bell Parade - Commencing at 2.30pm
sharp.
The meeting includes reports from the President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Correspondence in and out is also mentioned, plus general business regarding
different matters is discussed. This may mean members voting on something or
forwarding their opinions.
The club holds an Annual General Meeting each year on the second Saturday in July, at which members vote for their committee and financial reports for the previous year are discussed. The rest of the meeting is conducted as per a normal general meeting.
The Club produces its own
Newsletter, 'Holden Torque', for bi-monthly distribution to members and other Clubs. It
contains much information on Holdens as well as up and coming events. It also
has a Buy, Swap & Sell section for that elusive part or car you’ve possibly been
chasing.
Members have a choice of receiving the newsletter by mail or downloading a copy
from our website at their own leisure.
You don't need to be a member to download the newsletter, everyone is welcome! Also, feel free to distribute copies to interested family or friends!
Full membership is $40.00 per year plus a one-time joining fee of $20.00 payable on application. Membership year runs from July to June. Country membership is available for those that reside outside the defined Metropolitan Area. Memberships now includes partners as an option at no additional cost. Why should I join the Holden Car
Club of WA?
We are a dedicated group of Holden enthusiasts and as such have a wealth of knowledge and information available to us. We know where to get parts from, both original and reproduction, and have interstate contacts via our affiliation with other Clubs. The Club arranges many social functions in the form of Car Cruises, Car Shows, Movie Nights, breakfast runs and other novelty type events.
