From the President .....

Where has the year of 2011 gone!  We held our Christmas Function and Trophy Night on Saturday 26 November at the RSL Hall.  We were fortunate to get a visit from Father Christmas and his gorgeous helper, which delighted the young and the young at heart.  A scrumptious meal of ham, chicken and salad was served with plum pudding, trifle, fruit salad and Pavlova on the menu for sweets.  So many members contributed on the night to ensure the success of the Christmas function that it is difficult to single out one individual, however, Vene, organised the meal and also prepared some of the sweets so the Club is very grateful for her efforts.  Thanks to all the other ladies that contributed by making sweets for the evening.  Thanks also to the members that helped in the kitchen as this ease the workload.

Club trophies were presented for winner and equal runners up “People’s Choice” along with the Dennis Klarich Memorial trophy for “Best Club Member”.  Winner of the People’s Choice went to Kevin Mayes with Len Douglas and George Monaldi sharing the position of Runner Up.  Best Club Member was awarded to Barry Bettens.  It is good to see that the membership recognises the work done by Barry in organising our many club events.  Congratulations to all trophy winners.

Barry Bettens our property and merchandise manager, in addition to his normal activities, raffled a flight for 4 over the city and beaches kindly donated by David Forrest of Ashburton Air Services and raised about $400 after costs for the club.  The proceeds will be used to purchase video camera to record cars on display at Club events.  Trevor McLoughlin was the lucky winner of this raffle and I rang him in Tasmania to relay the good news.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Committee for the work they have done throughout the year.  The club is particularly fortunate to have such a capable group prepared to run the Club on behalf of and in the best interests of its Members.  They truly make the job of President very easy.

This issue of the Newsletter contains an interesting list of events planned for 2012.  Some of our Members attend almost all the events that we organise and I wish to thank them for all their support, however, if you are new member or you haven’t been able to attend an event for some time then cast your eye over the list and select a couple of events to attend.  We like to see as many new faces and cars at these events as possible.

On behalf of the Committee, I would like to extend to each and everyone, Seasons Greetings, and may you have a happy, holy and safe Christmas and New Year.  I hope to see you all at an event in 2012.

See you at the next event.

Jim Fitzgerald
